NASCAR Community Assembles Classroom Kits To Benefit Children Nationwide

Operation Caring Classroom, presented by The NASCAR Foundation in 2014, is an annual educational initiative impacting more than 40,000 students by increasing awareness, appreciation and support for military families across the United States. The goal of this initiative is to educate children on the meaning of Veterans Day and to help them understand the sacrifice service members and their families make each day.

During the last weekend of the NASCAR – An American Salute platform, The NASCAR Foundation hosted a volunteer project at Daytona International Speedway on Friday, July 4.  The NASCAR Foundation brought together NASCAR drivers, executives and employee volunteers to assemble 1,750 kits that will supplement the program resources being delivered to classrooms participating in Operation Caring Classroom this fall.

Within the sun streaked Goodyear Legends Pavilion in the Sprint Fan Zone, volunteers gathered amongst long tables stacked with kit materials and patriotic decorations to hear the event’s opening remarks.  NASCAR President Mike Helton kicked off the opening ceremony surrounded on stage by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Driver Kurt Busch, NASCAR Nationwide Series Driver Scott Lagasse Jr., Miss Sprint Cup, the Armed Forces Foundation President Patricia Driscoll, NASCAR Chief Operating Officer Brent Dewar, The NASCAR Foundation Board Members Jill Gregory and Stu Grant, NASCAR Chief Marketing Officer Steve Phelps, NASCAR Senior Vice President of Racing Operations Steve O’Donnell and The NASCAR Foundation Executive Director Lorene King.  Watch now how the NASCAR community kicked-off Operation Caring Classroom!

A warm thank you to NASCAR drivers Chris Buescher, Dakoda Armstrong, Eric McClure, Jamie Dick, Joey Gase, Joey Logano, Kurt Busch, Reed Sorensen, Ross Chastain, and Scott Lagasse Jr. who stopped by to assemble kits that included books about Veterans Day, disinfecting wipes, pencils, a Post-it note kit donated by NASCAR Official Partner 3M, a trial subscription to The Mailbox, an American flag and other classroom necessities into boxes for students across the country!
