Presenting $25,000 Check to Ronald McDonald House Charities

Providing a Home Away From Home for Kids

In August, The NASCAR Foundation partnered with Michigan International Speedway and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Ann Arbor (RMHCAA) to host a Speediatrics Fun Day Festival.

Children from the surrounding areas, including some who were staying at the house, attended the Festival to have a day of fun and play. The kids enjoyed activities such as face painting, pinewood derby races, and even meeting NASCAR drivers.

Through a $20,000 grant provided through the Speediatrics Children’s Fund, The NASCAR Foundation has helped to RMHCAA fund 120 nightly stays at both the Main House and the Mott House located on the 10th floor of C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.

Each night, RMHCAA provides a “home away from home” for 41 families of children experiencing a serious illness or injury requiring hospitalization or treatment.  These services are available to any family, from anywhere – at no cost

“The situation itself was overwhelming, let alone trying to figure out where we could stay on a long-term basis.  This place is such a peaceful sanctuary when the rest of our lives sometimes is unbearable.  I can’t thank you enough for making this home available to us,” said a parent.

Socks Family 2One of the greatest benefits to children who are hospitalized is to have their family, their support system, with them during this scary and difficult time.

“Our daughter was born with several serious, critical heart defects; she was set for heart surgery on day 3 of her life.  As I’m sure you can imagine this was an extremely stressful, upsetting, and confusing time,” said a parent benefitting from the services RMHCAA has to offer, “being able to stay on the same floor as her was the greatest gift we could receive.  The RMH room allowed us to keep the strength we needed to support our little girl.  We are so grateful for the help we received during the toughest, scariest experience of our lives.”

This partnership is an initiative of The NASCAR Foundation’s Speediatrics Children’s Fund, which aims to enhance the delivery of medical care and promote a healthy lifestyle to children in need, enabling them to lead happier, healthier lives. Learn more about the Speediatrics Children’s Fund.
