Soaring to New Heights for Kids – Meet John Scribner

As The NASCAR Foundation celebrates National Volunteer Appreciate Week on April 7-13, we are taking some time to recognize some of our dedicated volunteers!

A member of the Employee Ambassador program in NASCAR’s Daytona office, NASCAR Pilot John Scribner takes the extra initiative through continued involvement in The NASCAR Foundation’s calendar of events.

What were you looking to get out of this experience as a NASCAR Foundation Employee Ambassador and volunteer? How did you become involved?
I wasn’t looking for anything other than lending a hand. Also, the company, and specifically the family, were very good to me when my son got hurt. The least I can do is to lend a hand to support the Foundation.

What was your most memorable experience volunteering for The NASCAR Foundation?
Watching the kids at the Pinewood derby last year. We had everything organized so neatly and then this avalanche of kids shows up and takes over the race course. Total chaos ensued but the smiles on their faces made it all worthwhile. Taking pictures on the roof at Over the Edge was pretty cool too.

What inspires you most when volunteering for a non-profit like The NASCAR Foundation?
There’s a lot of good in this world. It’s easy for that to get lost in the continual noise of social media, round the clock news and general negativity. Volunteering for causes The NASCAR Foundation refocuses things for me.

Why is volunteering with a non-profit that helps support children important to you?
Who doesn’t want to help kids?

In addition to his volunteer work with The NASCAR Foundation, John is continually involved in the local Daytona Beach community through fundraising events on behalf of his son. Through events such as the annual Steps for Sam Guy Golf Tournament and 5k, John helps to make a difference in the community where he lives and works.

Thank you to John for all his contributions to impacting children in his local community!
