Piece of NASCAR History Available Through Friday, May 24 at 10 PM EST
Restrictor plates are history. This week, NASCAR fans have a chance to secure a piece of that history, through an online auction with The NASCAR Foundation.
In a most unique fundraising initiative that runs through Friday, The NASCAR Foundation – NASCAR’s charitable arm that works to improve the quality of life of children in need – is auctioning seven of the passé plates, which were used for the final time in this year’s DAYTONA 500. Moving forward, NASCAR is using tapered spacers to limit the flow of air to engines, in the process reducing speeds at the largest race tracks on the NASCAR national series schedule, for safety considerations.
The plates were secured from an elite group of drivers including former DAYTONA 500 champions Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson and Joey Logano. Other plates came from cars driven by Kyle Busch, Chase Elliott, Brad Keselowski and Martin Truex Jr. All the plates have been autographed by the respective drivers.
Online bidding, which is hosted through a partnership between The NASCAR Foundation and Fanatics Auctions, will close on Friday, May 24th at 10:00 PM EST
Proceeds from the online auction will benefit The NASCAR Foundation, which is aimed at improving the overall health and well-being of children through its Speediatrics Children’s Fund. To learn more, visit NASCARfoundation.org
