Some say, “Hope is not a strategy”, and generally, I would agree with this sentiment when I am planning out my work and personal life. But sometimes hope and heart is what you really need most – especially during times like these.
I am hoping, praying really, that friends, families, co-workers, supporters, race fans and especially the kiddos are safe and sound from this pandemic that we are facing. And with all my heart, I am hoping we will be back to whatever our new normal is real soon.
It is just surreal to me that we are not racing right now. We continue to find ways to bring the world of racing to our fans, whether that is through iRacing or through coloring pages served up by downloads from our website.
Our Speediatrics Fun Day Festivals have been paused for now. But we are not just hoping for the day when we can resume our work for the kids. No, we are still hard at work serving kids and their families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. We have been feeding families, providing hygiene and cleaning supplies and have helped to facilitate blood drives in several of our racing communities.
And what would The NASCAR Foundation be without a little fun? Because if you know us, we LOVE to have fun. We have provided over 500 Fit Kits to our young fans. I hope more than anything these Fit Kits put a smile on a child’s face. That the kits help to occupy some of the kids’ time while they are at home social distancing. Fun games in our activity book, a pedometer watch to track steps, a jump rope, frisbee and racing toys may be just the things needed to beat the boredom.
So, until we are back to our new normal, here’s hoping you are safe, well and happy.
