Dallas Hearing Foundation
Erin Collins is a volunteer with the Dallas Hearing Foundation. For the past 12 years Erin has dedicated her time to serve kids living with hearing loss, initially volunteering in a fundraising capacity for the organization and eventually creating a youth program to provide a safe space where the kids can be surrounded by peers also living with hearing loss.
Erin’s background as an elementary school teacher helped guide the development of the curriculum for the Teen Squad. “I wanted to give everybody a safe spot where they could be themselves. No judgment, just trust and respect”, said Erin Collins. This youth program was designed to motivate children to live a social life, leaving behind the isolation many of them lived in. Currently, the Teen Squad has become the most active of all the Dallas Hearing Foundation’s patient outreach programs.
Dallas Hearing Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides the gifts of hearing and speech to kids and adults with hearing loss. DHF offers medical and surgical treatment, hearing technologies, speech and hearing rehabilitation and education support to those in financial need. Funds received from winning the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award would help provide hearing aids and cochlear implants for kids.
Erin has been a NASCAR fan for 47 years. One of her favorite memories is from 1977, while on summer vacation, Erin and her father met Richard Petty, The King, at a McDonalds in Daytona Beach. Her favorite drivers are Richard Petty and Bubba Wallace.
