National Volunteer Week

The Dynamic Duo: Kendra & George

In order to celebrate National Volunteer Week on April 20 – April 24, The NASCAR Foundation is highlighting members of our own volunteer family!

Meet Kendra and George! They are dedicated NASCAR Foundation volunteers who have been part of our family for over 10 years.  Read below to learn more about this dynamic duo!

1. How and when did you start volunteering/partnering with The NASCAR Foundation?

We think it was 2010 when we started volunteering.  We volunteered through Relay For Life (American Cancer Society) to work the At-Track Booth in the front of the speedway.  We have never looked back!

2. How have you been involved with the Foundation (i.e. volunteered at Taste of the 24 event, High Speed Hold Em event, Over The Edge event, At-Track Booth, etc.)? Please list all.

We have volunteered with the At-Track Booth and Taste of the 24.

3. What’s been your favorite memory so far with The NASCAR Foundation?

There are so many that it is hard to choose, but the best was when we got to drive the trucks during driver introductions.  We cherish getting to meet the children that have benefited from the Foundation and the opportunities of seeing the various celebrities and NASCAR notorieties.  I was thrilled last year when I got to carry on long conversations with my favorite police officers from Live PD.  Another favorite memory is receiving a large cash donation after explaining what the Foundation does.

4. Why do you volunteer with and support a nonprofit that helps children in need?

Children are unable to help themselves.  For the most part, they have to rely on adults to provide for them.   Any chance to assist children to have a better life or an opportunity for improvement is amazing.  We volunteer because time doesn’t cost anything.  We may not have a lot of money, but we can find time to help others.  Many times, we get out more than we put in.

5. What advice would you give to someone who has been thinking about volunteering for or supporting a nonprofit in their local community?

Always research the charity so you know where the money goes.  Volunteering is a win-win.  You don’t have to have money to donate time.  There are so many organizations that have many different needs.  There is a fit for everyone.
