Meet Daryl Farler – 2020 Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award Finalist

Daryl is one of the founders of Amputee Blade Runners and has volunteered with the organization for 10 years interviewing most of the children who are seeking services; he also advocates and fundraises for the organization raising nearly $100,000 thus far.

Amputee Blade Runners (ABR) provides free running and sports prosthetics to lower-limb amputees seeking a more active lifestyle. Daryl’s connection to the organization is personal. He shares the physical loss of ABR clients. Fourteen years ago, while playing with his girlfriend’s dog, he was scratched in his left eye that led to a physical shutdown of his body. This led to loss of sight in one of his eyes, hearing in one ear, partial amputation of each finger and both of his legs. He turned his pain into opportunity for others and after re-learning to walk, he began a career in prosthetics and began running marathons.

Daryl is a huge NASCAR fan and has not only attended races, but has also biked around the trioval at Daytona International Speedway during a ChallengeDaytona triathlon and raced around the track participating in the NASCAR Racing Experience.

Funds received from winning the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award would change the lives of 50 of the toughest children by providing free equipment, education and ongoing support to help improve their mobility, health, and self-esteem.
