A Program to Bring Even More Fun and Play to Speediatrics

The Speediatrics Unit at Halifax Health Medical Center extended its efforts to provide children with the best possible care by welcoming back The Diversionary Therapy Program.

The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer retunred with the program to the Speediatrics Unit at Halifax Health on January 27, 2016. IMSA drivers Ryan Dalziel and Mark Goosen celebrated the speical occasion together with several little Speediatrics patients.

The Diversionary Program will bring various specialized activities to the Speediatrics Unit to provide children stationed in the unit with more recreational opportunities. The program aims at building self-esteem and personal fulfillment, as well as increasing the psychological, social and spiritual well-being of the children. The program allows the little patients to forget about the hospital environment while they play and have fun.

During the introduction of the program, the IMSA drivers built and decorated derby cars out of pinewood together with the little patients, which the children could test afterwards on the mini track set up for them. Big smiles could be seen on everybody’s faces as the children and drivers raced their cars.
