A message from Jenna, mother to Jaxon (age 4)
For years I have seen stories on the news about this person visiting the children’s hospital or that person visiting another. I always thought “Man, no one comes to visit us when we’re in the hospital.”
This “us” I am referring to would be myself and my youngest child, Jaxon. Jaxon was born with a number of conditions, more are discovered every year it seems. When things get bad, I just think it could always be worse. There are families out there where it’s already worse, so it’s important to be grateful with where we’re at.
With pediatric patients, an adult must be present at all times. Makes obvious sense, but needs to be said. On day 3, we had some NASCAR visitors. Jaxon understood ZERO about what was happening, but I just want you to know… this program is as much for the parents as it is for the kids.
It was only a few minutes, but when you’ve been stuck in a tiny room seeing the same 6 people over and over, it gets old fast. It was such a wonderful feeling to have these guests to just come and say hello. I really can’t put it into words. It was a saving grace. Such a small gesture made things feel all better for a little while.
Thank you for what you do, thank you to everyone who takes some time out of their schedule to bring smiles to these kids and their parents, and thank you to all the donors. It brought such joy to me and we were only there for a short time. But to the families there for extended periods of time, it brings a little sanity.
