If you’ve ever wanted to rappel down an 8-story, state-of-the-art, mirrored building (à la your favorite action movie star), or simply watch someone else do it while you marvel at the feat, now’s your chance.
Everyday heroes, thrill seekers and community leaders are invited to be brave for courageous kids this November during the inaugural “Over The Edge At ONE DAYTONA” event. The event will take place Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 16 – 18, at the International Motorsports Center, the headquarters of NASCAR and International Speedway Corporation (ISC).
Participants in the fundraising event, which will benefit The NASCAR Foundation and Easterseals of Northeast Central Florida (formerly Easterseals of Volusia – Flagler Counties), will have the opportunity to rappel the entire eight stories of the west-side façade of the 102-foot-high International Motorsports Center. Event logistics are coordinated by Over the Edge, a professional rappelling organization that organizes similar events throughout the country.
Registration is open for individual fundraisers, and underwriting opportunities are available from $5,000. The first 200 fundraisers to raise $1,000 will earn their spot to go Over the Edge. Employees of area businesses can even raise funds to “toss the boss” – one of many sponsorship categories. Register and learn more about the event and giving levels at www.DaytonaOverTheEdge.org.
“Over the Edge is a unique fundraiser that the Daytona Beach community has never experienced,” said Lesa France Kennedy, CEO of International Speedway Corporation (ISC) and Vice Chairperson of The NASCAR Foundation, NASCAR, and ISC Board of Directors. “It’s fitting that the home of NASCAR and the anticipation of the grand opening of ONE DAYTONA are marked with such an adrenaline-pumping event. I never thought I would scale the side of our headquarters building, but I look forward to raising funds to help children in need.”
“Over the Edge is a remarkable fundraiser and I’m thrilled Easterseals can partner with The NASCAR Foundation to help children in such a thrilling way,” said Kelly Parsons Kwiatek, Easterseals board chair. “Easterseals sees daily the courage children with disabilities have that fuels their desire to live to their highest potentials, and this fundraiser is an opportunity for anyone to tap into their own bravery by rappelling 102 feet! I know the community will be as excited as we are about this unique event. Thousands of children with special healthcare needs will benefit.”
